Privacy policy
[Company name] ("Roomie", "we") is responsible for the personal data processed through this website. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What we collect
- Quiz answers: preferences such as city, budget, move-in date, living habits, pets, smoking, occupation and languages.
- Contact details: your email address.
- Donation data: handled by Stripe. We receive your name, email and the amount, never your full card details.
- Usage data: only if you allow analytics cookies, including recordings of clicks and scrolling, with anything you type hidden.
Why and on what basis
- To match you with flatmates and email you about matches. Basis: your consent and taking steps at your request.
- To process donations and refunds. Basis: performance of a contract and legal obligations (tax records).
- To improve the site. Basis: your consent (analytics cookies).
Who sees your data
Our small team reviews quiz answers by hand. We use AI tools to help suggest lifestyle fits; a person always makes the final match. We share limited profile details with a potential match only after you agree. We use processors for hosting, email and payments ([hosting provider], [email provider], Stripe), bound by data processing agreements. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
Quiz answers and email: until you ask us to delete them, or 24 months after your last activity. Donation records: 7 years, as required by Dutch tax law.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to processing, or withdraw consent at any time by emailing privacy@roomie.app. We reply within one month. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Terms & conditions
1. The service
Roomie is in an early testing phase. We introduce people looking for a room to people looking for a flatmate, based on quiz answers. Matching is free.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and give truthful answers.
3. What we don't do
We are not a landlord, rental agent or party to any rental agreement. We don't verify identities, properties or income at this stage. Always view a place in person, never pay a deposit before seeing a contract, and check that the landlord has the right to rent.
4. No guarantee
We do our best, but we can't promise a match, or that a match will work out.
5. Fair use
No fake profiles, spam, harassment, discrimination or scams. We may remove anyone who breaks these rules.
6. Liability
To the extent allowed by law, we're not liable for arrangements you make with other users. Nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights.
7. Changes and law
We may update these terms and will tell you about important changes by email. Dutch law applies; disputes go to the competent court in [city].
Donations & refunds
- Donations are one-time and voluntary. They are not an investment and give no ownership or equity.
- Payments are processed securely by Stripe.
- Supporter perks (early feature access, one month of premium at launch) are offered in good faith and depend on Roomie launching.
- If Roomie doesn't launch by [date], we'll refund every donation in full, minus Stripe's processing fee.
- Want a refund for another reason? Email hello@roomie.app within 14 days of donating.
- Donations are not tax-deductible. Roomie is not a registered charity (ANBI).
